Renter Friendly

With virtually every apartment complex in Sarasota going condo, I wonder how they found anything to rate at all, but a web site that serves as a self-described forum for more than 8 million renters to share the "unvarnished truth about their apartments" has ranked Sarasota as the nation's eighth most renter-friendly city.

The list compiled by ApartmentRatings.com is based on information from thousands of renters combined with information from the U.S. Census Bureau about vacancy rates and affordability.

Cities ahead of Sarasota -- the only Florida city to make the list -- include Raleigh, N.C.; Ann Arbor, Mich.; Fort Wayne, Ind.; Grand Rapids, Mich.; Kalamazoo, Mich.; Athens Ga.; and Lansing, Mich.

ApartmentRatings.com says it covers about 50,000 properties across the United States.
